Glasgow is a city the that tries to market itself as a modern, diverse accepting city of the future with ‘People Make Glasgow’ plastered everywhere. Meanwhile on the streets under where these banners hang there are police escorted marches by groups formed to spread hate.
Time zones are fascinating. It's currently 4.00 AM in New York. 6.00 PM in Sydney, and in Glasgow it's the late 17th century.
Many thanks to all those who attended our protests against anti-Catholic bigotry in Glasgow. Our community refuses to be silent and we will continue to challenge every bigoted march that we can that passes by a Catholic Church. Shame on those who have facilitated this today. pic.twitter.com/jVWGYEKcTg
We need radical policies to address the climate emergency.
I am looking forward to going to Glasgow as part of a massive movement for a
#GreenNewDeal that puts people and planet first.
Even on a 'very generous' assessment that the Orange Order is pro-Protestant rather than anti-Catholic, no one can possibly think these sectarian marches make a positive contribution to community cohesion. It's time to end marching season in Scotland.https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/sep/18/dont-pass-catholic-churches-protests-as-glasgow-braces-for-orange-walks …
Anyone know what movie they are filming today in Glasgow? Seems to be a historic, jaunty musical about hatred.
And in contrast, here is another side of Glasgow altogether!!! https://twitter.com/GlasgowWEToday/status/1439218786142457858 …
Worth a reminder: The Billy Boys - sung with such gusto in Glasgow city centre today, and very often by thousands of Rangers fans at Ibrox Park - is a song which glorifies the 1920s anti-Irish Catholic gang which was led by former British fascist member Billy Fullerton.
There are scheduled to be 34 Orange order marches in Glasgow today, THIRTY FOUR. 21st century Scotland should have ZERO. They get to march through Glasgow spouting anti Catholic bile under the guise if songs and make people feel unsafe in their own city. It's time to end them
